Here are my thoughts:

Our son just started school this year so now we have homework to deal with. That means school supplies including lots of pencils. We realized quickly that we were definitely in need of a pencil sharpener. This one is really small and compact which is nice. But it is battery operated only. And it takes 4 AA batteries, which are not included. With that many batteries needed I would have preferred a power cord. To sharpen you have to press down pretty firmly, so a kid might have a little trouble doing it on their own. We have sharpened pencils from a completely blunt, un-sharpened state as well as resharpened dull pencils. It seemed to work better and have an easier time with the resharpenings rather than starting from scratch. All in all I think it's a good value for the price, but not fantastic.
